چکیده
The experimental investigation of the energy loss of swift heavy ions in laser produced plasmas [1] is one of the main research activities of the Plasma Physics Department at GSI. Cryogenic systems [2] are in this context of special interest, due to the possibility to create solid state targets (T = 4.2 K ) out of matter which is gaseous under normal conditions, especially hydrogen and deuterium. Moreover, the properties of laser produced hydrogen and deuterium plasmas are well understood theoreticaly and thus highly suitable for studying the physics of the interaction of energetic heavy ions with plasma particles.

متن کاملEnergy Gain of Magnetized Cylindrical D-T Targets in Fast Ignition Fusion
In recent years, many different plans have been considered to use the nuclear energy gained from inertial confinement fusion (ICF) as attempts to obtain high energy efficiencies. In conventional ICF methods, a small amount (about mg) of the deuterium–tritium compound is confined in a small spherical chamber of a few millimeters in radius and compressed by laser or heavy ion beams with powers in...

In order to determine the fusion energy gain in a target due to inertial confinement fusion, it is necessary to solve hydrodynamic equations governed on plasma behavior during confinement time. To compress spherical multilayer targets having fuel in the central part, they are irradiated by laser or heavy ion beams. A suitable mass ratio of a pusher is used to ignite the central part of the ta...
